Types of Fashion Styles to be Aware of 2023
In simple terms, fashion is what is being offered and worn by most people in a particular point in time. Style on the other hand is the expression of self through what is worn. There are so many different types of fashion styles and trends, I am going to focus more on the ones in which am interested. I am going to explain what each type is and what clothing items accessories are expected of a particular trend.
Types of fashion styles
1. Street Wear Style
This is a fashion style that started in the streets. It evolved from the Californian skate and surf culture. Over the years, many big brands and designers have embraced and incorporated street style in to their fashion designs. This style is particularly beloved by youngsters, they often prefer to dress like this to school and outdoor.
2. Casual Chic Types of Fashion Styles
This is a classy, elegant and chic style, often in neutral colors or white and black. This style is often less colorful but classy. It is often preferred by working class women as it puts one in to a strictly business mood. Fashion items to look out for in this style are; over- coats, knee length dresses, medium heeled shoes, less accessories, tailored pants, flowy blouses and slightly bigger size bags.
3. Formal Office Style
Formal office wear. Dressing on a normal day is different from dressing to the office. What to wear to the office, especially in meetings and functions, is a major dilemma. Often times, formal office wear includes: appropriate dresses {knee length dresses} midi/midaxi dresses, skirts, shirts, blouses, trousers and comfortable heeled shoes. Pursuing this fashion style is key for anyone who works in an office and would like to stand out always.

One thing I love about this style is that, even though it is a formal look, a lady can always look sexy and girly in it.
4. Business Casual Style
This fashion style is a mix of formal and casual, it is also good for meetings and office functions. This style includes; a pair of trousers or jeans with a blazer, a blouse and an appropriate heeled shoes. Preferably neutral colors or white, black or brown.
5. The Girly Girly Style
This is every girl’s style; it is the ultimate feminine style. A girly girly style entails dressing in bright colors or colorful dresses, skirts and blouses with eye catching accessories, such as bows, ear rings, bows, clutches, watches, bangles and bracelets and wearing a lot of make-up. Usually everyone have those instances where they do girly girl styles, be it a party, a night out with friends or just a simple walk.
6. Retro Fashion
This vintage fashion style mainly borrows a lot from past fashion styles. A good example is the vintage inspired dresses, tops, skirts, tops and pants. The polka dot dress is a vintage dress style which has beaten the taste of time, until date, it is still a fashion favorite for many fashion influencers. It is often worn nowadays, especially during costume parties and Halloween.
7. Vacation Fashion Style
This fashion style is commonly called summer wear style because often times people wear this style when it is summer or on vacation. The main idea behind this style is that, vacation is relaxation time and one needs to wear free and airy clothes in other to enjoy the sweet sea breeze and get some sun. The most common fashion items in this fashion style are; bright and colorful maxi dresses, strappy sandals, swim suits, wide summer hats, short loose clothes, shorts, t-shirts and caftans.
8. Haute Couture Fashion style
This fashion style is mainly made up custom made dresses mostly produced by high end designers. Often worn by celebrities for most of their functions and celebrations. Currently there are many affordable upcoming designers who can custom make dresses. So if you are one who loves to get every detail you envisage in an outfit, this fashion style is for you.
9. Flamboyant Fashion styles
From its name, one would notice that it is a strikingly colorful and attractive style. It is mostly characterized by startling colors and exaggerated styling mainly for attracting attention. Most accessories are always in bright colors, for example an all pink or light green out fit with a hat or fascinator of the same color filled with bright color flowers. The Queen of England’s often dresses in Flamboyant style.
10. Ethnic fashion style
This comprises of ethnic and traditional custom-made outfit which are mostly worn by people from a particular tribe, custom or tradition. For example the African Ankara fashion style.
